Talent Scouting Online

Client:
WhatTalent

Olly Mardling, CEO of WhatTalent, is probably the most enthusiastic person we've ever met. We love working with Olly because he is so involved, which makes things so much easier for us. When you have the full attention of the client things just move faster (but then anyone who knows anything about agile project management will say "of course, we all know the stakeholder is vital").

Not only that, but he really likes to do things properly. CMS Professionals don't just build his website. We look after his version control, we set up his disaster recovery plans, we manage his extranet and knowledge sharing tools and we manage his software development. And doing things properly means a dedication to open source software which is totally aligned to our own. No wonder we get on so well!

WhatTalent's primary business is their online portal for all people with a creative gift. It is a dynamic community site packed with musicians, artists, models, photographers, dancers, designers, contortionists, you name it, they all have a place in the WhatTalent network.

It doesn't stop there though. There are huge plans in the offing and we are already working on another WhatTalent website (shhhh, can't tell, but it will be on here soon) which will rock the world of UK-based commercial creativity-seekers. Watch this space.

Contributions:

During the process of building WhatTalent our main contributions were the File Field Upload Limit module (provides the ability to restrict upload size on a Drupal 5.x File Field, previously not possible) and a Drupal 5.x Inline Help module using JavaScript pop-ups to provide help information on menus, blocks, views and panels (thanks to Ben Scott for his help on that). Inline Help is not published at this moment in time, but we intend to open source it. It is a Drupal 5.x module. If you would like to take a look then contact us.

We worked extensively with the (now defunct) Buddylist module to provide Facebook-style groups of "friends" and the ability to assign access to content based on your groups, and we did all this way before Facebook even thought of it. The improvements included a user interface overhaul adding jQuery drag and drop abilities to "friend" management.

This was also one of the first websites to make extensive use of Panels 5.x-1.x, testing and raising bug reports and feature requests as we went. Panels have proved hugely useful on WhatTalent's main website and we look forward to updating and seeing what Panels 3.x can do!
